Welcome Back!
School Starts
Monday, August 23rd
We are looking forward to seeing you! Almond Acres Charter Academy will be housed at two temporary locations until our new school site is move-in ready. K-3rd grade will be at Centennial Park and 4th-8th grade will be at Paso Robles Youth Arts Center.
Frequently Asked Questions
What about traffic?
A valid concern!
Our staff and Board have been proactive in hiring someone to take care of safety and facilities! We have designed our bell schedule on purpose to have staggered start and end times with surrounding schools to minimize traffic issues both at our temporary locations and our permanent location.
Pick up and drop off details and instructions can be found on Mr. B’s Parent Square post from August 21st.
Please keep in mind that it typically takes about one week to work out traffic challenges that may arise. Also, traffic is typically heavier the first few days of school. We thank you in advance for your patience!
Help! My uniforms are back ordered. What should I do?
This is frustrating, for sure! Fortunately, we understand and will be flexible. Here are a few options that are “win-win”:
- Purchase a PLAIN red, yellow (gold), blue (Royal Blue), or green (Kelly Green) polo from your retailer of choice and have your student wear it until your order arrives. To see what these colors look like–there are so many shades of blue out there–click on the link for each shirt to see a sample!
- Get a free uniform shirt from another family! Families are currently swapping uniforms on a private Facebook group page called Our Charter School Family. Many families are offering free, used uniforms to anyone that needs them! Join the group and let us know what your needs are!
Meals at school?
Lunch is free for all students! We are contracting with the Paso Robles school district for lunch service and need to order our lunches a day in advance. You can order lunch via the School Lunch Order Form on Parent Square. Free breakfast will be offered to students once we are at our permanent location.
PLEASE NOTE:
Paso Robles Youth Arts Center is a NUT-FREE facility. So please pack accordingly to respect our friends with severe nut allergies. There are many nut butter alternatives available (sunbutter is a great choice!), or use this opportunity to take advantage of free lunches from the school!
Masks?
“I don’t want my child to wear a mask.”
“I want everyone to wear a mask.”
“I just want the choice to decide what is best for my children and not be forced either way.”
We hear you. This is a topic that is being discussed at the Board level. We will update you on what is required. Currently, masks are required indoors.
You can trust that the Board will take ALL sides into consideration when choosing what is best for our school. The well-being of our students and staff is of high priority!
Can I get out of my car at drop off or walk my children to school?
We understand that first-day jitters are a real thing! We get them too! Parents are permitted to park and walk their child to the school entrance where they’ll meet their teachers. Students will be accompanied by school staff to their classroom.
Can I volunteer at school?
We believe that parental involvement is a VITAL part of education and pride ourselves in our “open door” approach to schooling.
At the beginning of every school year, we like to take a few weeks for the teachers and students to get to know each other and create routines before introducing volunteers. When we move to our permanent location we will send out more information about the volunteer vetting process. Stay tuned!
What happens if my child is exposed to COVID-19?
Our health protocols have us notify you with a generic email if anyone in your child’s grade is diagnosed with a health condition that could spread (strep throat, COVID-19, lice, etc.). Your child can continue to come to school as long as they remain symptom-free.
If your child is determined to be in close contact with someone with COVID, or your child needs to be quarantined because of exposure outside of school, we will provide short-term independent study materials for your child until they are able to return.
Have grade-related or class-related questions?
By now, all families should have received a welcome Parent Square post from their teacher. They are so excited to meet you all!
If you have questions about school supplies, curriculum, or classroom expectations, please reach out to your child’s teacher via email or Parent Square, and they will get back to you ASAP!
